What We Do

At Brightshores Research Institute, we’re on a mission to transform rural healthcare and wellness by partnering with others who share our commitment.

We believe no Canadian should settle for second-best healthcare because of their postal code.  Rural communities face severe healthcare barriers and our mission is to change that. But we can’t do it alone. By working with like-minded partners — across sectors, geographies, and disciplines — we are committed to making rural healthcare accessible, equitable, and sustainable for all.

Collaboration in Action

Advanced AI Wound Care

Wound care is one of the biggest challenges facing healthcare systems worldwide, with up to half of all care delivered in homes and communities involving a wound. In Canada, chronic wounds cost our health system over $4B annually. Artificial intelligence (AI) provides a unique opportunity to support better and more equitable access to quality wound care. Brightshores Research Institute, in collaboration with Swift Medical, Giishkaandago’Ikwe Health Services, the National Research Council of Canada, and the Centre for Technology Adoption for Aging in the North at the University of Northern British Columbia, is creating an Advanced AI Wound Care Network.
